About Inkosi Langalibalele Local Municipality (KZN237)

Description: The Inkosi Langalibalele Local Municipality is a Category B municipality situated within the uThukela District in the KwaZulu-Natal Province. It is the smallest of the three municipalities in the district, but makes up a third of its geographical area. It was established by the amalgamation of the Imbabazane and uMtshezi Local Municipalities in August 2016. The majority of the municipality’s population is concentrated in urban and farming areas, but there are a few patches of high-density settlements within the informal areas. The municipality boasts well-established industrial, commercial and residential areas, as well as rich agricultural farmlands. Escourt is the largest commercial centre in the Midlands region. Weenen is a small agricultural town that is starting to emerge as a tourist destination. The N3 National Road traverses the municipality. Main Economic Sectors: Community services (22.2%), manufacturing (19.5%), transport (16.9%), trade (13.3%), finance (11.3%). As contribution to GVA – Source IDP 2024/25
