About Govan Mbeki Local Municipality (MP307)

Description: The Govan Mbeki Local Municipality (previously Highveld East Local Municipality) is situated in the Gert Sibande District in the Mpumalanga Province. It is bordered by the Nkangala District in the north, Dipaleseng and Lekwa in the south, Msukaligwa in the east, and the Gauteng Province in the west. It is one of the smallest of seven municipalities that make up the district, accounting for 9% of its geographical area. Secunda is the seat of the municipality, as well as the seat of the district municipality. Main Economic Sectors: Agriculture (14.3%), mining (1.4%), manufacturing (5.5%), utilities (9.4%), construction (5.6%), trade (15.0%), transport (6.4%), finance (15.1%), community services (27.3%).
